Riverside Beat Priority Update

Please see the following update for this quarters priority around theft of cycles and cycle crime: 

During April 2026, officers undertook targeted activity focused on cycle theft prevention and patrols of known hotspot locations across the beat, including Leicester Royal Infirmary, De Montfort University, local gyms, hotels, and associated bike storage areas.

A cycle registration and crime prevention event was held in partnership with an external cycle safety provider, where bicycles were registered and theft‑prevention advice was provided. Engagement with cyclists and members of the public was positive, with no concerns raised.

Following a number of reported cycle and motorbike thefts during the period, high‑visibility foot patrols were conducted at bike racks and storage areas linked to previous incidents. Officers passed on cycle safety advice to users and liaised with partner agencies, including university security teams and site management, to review security measures and CCTV coverage.

CCTV enquiries were progressed in relation to a high‑value bicycle theft from a secured bike shed, with footage reviewed and investigative actions completed. No further incidents were reported directly during subsequent patrols, and all locations checked were calm with no persons of concern identified.

Overall, the activity focused on prevention, reassurance and investigation, with continued patrols and engagement helping to deter offending and support ongoing enquiries.
